How it started

After World War 1 Australian veterans were awarded with agricultural land in Western Australia to reintegrate. When the Great Depression struck in 1929, the government encouraged farmers to grow wheat with the promise of financial assistance. Unfortunately wheat prices dropped to an all time low and the farmers never got financial assistance. If that wasn't bad enough, the farmers where only to find over 20,000 emus destroying their crops.
